Sunday Night Demo Derby: Labor Day Weekend at the Vermont State Fair

The Vermont State Fair has been held in Rutland, Vermont since 1846, and has grown to include entertainment, rides, and educational exhibits, as well as a great deal of culture and great food. These photos were taken on Sunday, September 2, 2012. This year, the fair runs through September 9th-- so there's still time to plan a visit. For more on the Vermont State Fair, visit http://www.vermontstatefair.net/

Elmer is Vermont strong!

This Nashville-based band was fronted by a Bruce Springsteen lookalike-- because everything's authentic when you're in Rutland!

The Green Mountain State's finest maple.

Happy fruit people win a Four-H ribbon!

Rutland and the fair patrons win a ribbon for keeping a clean fairgrounds. Keep America Beautiful!

This young girl was incredibly proud of her goat.

Carnival food stands featuring Deep Fried Butter! I had an excellent pulled pork sandwich from a Ludlow, VT-based wagon.

I never saw the Relay team, but did find their visor...

This all takes place behind the former Blockbuster Video storefront.

Twilight in the Grandstand.

Stoney Roberts' Demolition Derby; round one, featuring only 6-cylinder engines.

Round two: eight cylinders, including a few Lincoln Town Cars.

And the crowd went wild!

My favorite!

The winner!

Though one of the eight-cylinder rounds did feature a brief off-track fistfight, the end of the race contained many impromptu moments of good sportsmanship.

The winning driver, and team of mechanics.

Too much of Rutland is just enough.
