The memes presented in this post were collected from various online sources during May 2017. As major media networks' allegiances fall into question as much as the elected officials they are said to cover, the meme remains a unique and American means of freedom of expression. If a foreign power were to seek influence over a country and its people through the creation of 'fake news' outlets, the meme may escape such influence: these are often obviously-homespun, bite-sized moments of political thought, humor, and power. Their transferability-- as reposts and retweets-- have allowed them to continue to populate the Internet, even following the election of 2016.
