The Kavya Project compiles original MIDI-based compositions produced during the fall of 2000 and the spring of 2001. These tracks are recordings of a computer playing back a complicated musical score; the score is original and the sounds employed are drawn from the General MIDI sound set. All notes, rests, and other marks were entered onto a score via QWERTY-type keyboard. Many of these compositions are designed to challenge the technical musical capabilities of this virtual ensemble: some include erratic or mismatched time signatures, obscure modulations, and other surprises. The Kavya Project was released in limited edition in 2001, and is presented here in a newly-remastered form.
The title of this collection is drawn from a quote from James Joyce's Finnegans Wake: "And so it all ended. Artha kama dharma moska. Ask Kavya for the kay. And so everybody heard their plaint and all listened to their plause. The letter! The litter! And the soother the bitther!"
